New Haven, Ct - Grand Light has recently begun the restoration of the historic lighting fixtures of Sagamore Hill. Sagamore Hill was the home of Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the
United States, from 1885 until his death in 1919. During Roosevelt's
time in office, his "Summer White House" was the focus of international
attention. The most significant events took place at Sagamore Hill
during the seven summers it served as Theodore Roosevelt's Summer White
House, from 1902 until 1908. During that time, Roosevelt used his home
to host luminaries from around the country and around the world.

New Haven, CT - Grand Light has had the Gowanda luminaries under work for the past few weeks. Upon their arrival, the fixtures underwent a complete individual inspection: each fixture was photographed and it's condition was evaluated based on mechanics, electronic, glass and finish condition. The Grand Light artisans were discouraged to discover that the condition of most luminaries would result in having to completely refinish most of these fixtures.

Over the weekend the Grand Light team drove through the blizzard to upstate NY to pick up the carefully packed fixtures and transport them back to our New Haven facility, were their condition will be assessed by Grand Light professionals.

New Haven, CT - Grand Light has begun the restoration of thirty three historic lighting fixtures from a private residence in Hartford, Connecticut. The residence was originally built in 1924 for a lawyer named Mr. Sage. It is a stone rendition of the Colonial Revival style and was designed
by the Hartford firm of Smith and Bassette, who designed many of the
best stately houses in Hartford at that time.
The house did not stay in
Sage's hands for very long. It was purchased by a man named M. Allen
Swift in around 1930, and he had the house until he died in 2005 at the
age of 102. Swift was the general manager of the M. Swift and Sons, a precious metals company in Hartford which was responsible for the gold leafing of the
State Capitol dome when it was constructed. Swift was locally famous for driving around town in the green
Rolls-Royce that he received as a college graduation present from his
father in 1928. The home is currently undergoing a renovation.
